Horsemanship Program
Horsemanship Program
Our Horsemanship Program is for the very beginning horse enthusiast who has had no prior interactions with horses, and/or the individual who would like to ride but is perhaps intimidated by such a large animal. The program consists of 4 1-hour lessons beginning with an introduction to our smaller miniature horses.
In the first three lessons, students learn how to:
- safely move around and interact with horses
- interpret a horse’s body language and understand how horses communicate
- groom a horse, including currying, brushing and cleaning out the hooves
- lead the horse, including obstacle courses
- take “their” horse on a hike on our trail
- tack up the horse
In the 4th lesson students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned with the miniature horses to one of our full-sized horses and, if they are comfortable (which they usually are!), to have the opportunity to get up in the saddle and take a ride around our ring!
Our Horsemanship Program can include up to 4 students per class.
